Winter Wellness: Simple Ways to Feel Your Best This Season
5 February 2025
Winter, from December through to mid March, is a time for hibernation, reflection, and planning. While the season can sometimes feel a little grey and challenging, it also offers a beautiful opportunity to slow down, embrace rest, and nurture yourself. Here are some simple, effective winter wellness tips to help you stay healthy and energised during the colder months.
Wake Up with Light
If you use an alarm to wake up, consider investing in a sunrise-mimicking alarm clock. This can make mornings feel gentler and help regulate your circadian rhythm. Once awake, aim to get outside for 10–20 minutes of natural daylight as soon as possible. Natural light exposure supports mood, energy levels, hunger cues, hormones, and sleep cycles. If it’s still dark or you can’t get outside, using a 10,000 lux light can be a great alternative.
Stay Hydrated
Hydration is just as important in winter as it is in summer. Drink plenty of herbal teas, room-temperature water, or nourishing broths and soups throughout the day. Aim for at least two litres of liquid daily. To prevent an afternoon energy slump, start your day with water and wait 60–90 minutes before consuming caffeine.
Nourish with Seasonal Foods
Eat a variety of seasonal vegetables and incorporate warming spices such as ginger, black pepper, cayenne, cinnamon, cardamom, and clove into your meals. These spices can help increase warmth, support digestion, and strengthen immunity during the colder months.
Keep Moving
While it’s tempting to stay curled up indoors, staying active helps prevent sluggishness and keeps circulation flowing. Bundle up for a winter walk or run, continue your yoga practice, or maintain a strength training routine to keep your body and mind energised.
Use supplements and essential oils
As a minimum, consider taking vitamin D spray, and use uplifting, energising and warming oils. Try the blend below, or our Revival blend to boost your energy and mood.
Enjoy Warm Evening Baths
A warm aromatherapy bath can be a perfect way to unwind and soothe both body and mind. Use a natural body and bath oil, or mix a few drops of essential oil with 15ml of carrier oil before adding it to your bath water. This helps to deeply relax muscles and promote restful sleep.
Let Go of Guilt and Pressure
Winter invites us to embrace quiet moments and cosy evenings. Light some candles, curl up with a book or your journal, and allow yourself the gift of rest. When you feel inspired, jot down ideas for the year ahead and start laying the groundwork for spring.
